Giant Bomb’s fate is up in the air, and Polygon just got shafted with a recent sale. This is some heartbreaking stuff. So many people’s livelihoods just evaporated because of corporate machinations extremely out of their control. Brands as solid as these two paragons of the videogame journalism/content world, just up and poof, because of the “Adults in the Room”, as being discussed in an Aftermath podcast.

You definitely have a lot of executives who obviously don’t understand media in general. That’s the “Adults In The Room” post, talking about people who on one hand ostensibly are the leaders of these websites, but on the other hand do not trust the people who are writing things – who are creating what basically is the appeal of the website – to understand what would be best for the website.

The more this happens, the more I get reinvigorated and radicalized towards supporting as many worker-owned and listener/reader-supported organizations as I can find. This deserves its own post, so I’ll write about that soon.
