By the very nature of having read about digital gardening a lot, I feel weird and slightly pretentious trying to regurgitate and add my own spin to what it all means. Many others have already described and explained what this is all about, a lot more cogently and informatively.
But hey, this is what digital gardening is all about.. working out in the open. I don’t have to be perfect, I don’t have to work in my drafts quietly and furtively, editing and fixing and futzing with ad nauseum and then talking myself out of ever publishing a single goddamn thing.
You can’t grow something if it’s cooped up in a box. You have to be out in the light, with everyone else. And that’s what I’m shooting for.
So, some characteristics?
- Speaking in drafts.. nothing is final. When you publish something, that’s not the final word. That’s the beginning! Things should be responsive and affected by what’s around it. If I write something and someone says something in response to it, I can adjust and add and change and grow from it.
- Communal.. this isn’t a closed environment. I’m out here so I can collaborate and mingle and learn with and learn from.
